Whether you catch him beat boxing on a Vancouver street corner or singing and playing guitar onstage at an international venue, you're bound to be charmed by the many talents of musician David Morin. After years spent honing his craft in the Vancouver scene and beyond, the 32 year-old neo-soul singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist released his debut album “Every Colour” to critical acclaim in October 2015. David Morin's music is pure, authentic and from the heart. Self-taught and passionately committed to being a career artist and all that choice entails, he's blessed with the ability to turn strangers into fans. A guitar virtuoso with a knack for making a solo performance sound like an entire band, Morin's riffs bring to mind the licks of blues and funk masters. Playful hints of disco and pop add retro flavor to a contemporary soul aesthetic that's as accessible as it is seductive.
A vacant warehouse. Music blasting. A woman with a needle in her chest meets a man in a tacky red suit. Pulp Fiction meets feigned pomp. Sadye Cage meets Ty Vega. The unorthodox union, born of fake blood and abandoned asylum lighting, and fleshed out with the addition of drummer Jed Desilets, bassist Mario Lagassé, and Caro LaFlamme on keys would eventually become Winnipeg-rooted indie-rock outfit Sc Mira. Their debut, Waiting Room Baby, showcases simple but savory instrumentation framing and keeping focus on Cage’s voice and poetry. The overall product on record, which features the legendary Buck 65 (a poet in his own right) on the track “Motel Honey,” is sweet but haunting, bold but brittle. Live, though, those same songs are injected with energy and rise, fervor and ferocity. With a live show that boasts the urgency and intensity of a thunderstorm and a fresh take on fiery folk rock – dark, dazzling, eerie, elegant – Sc Mira is a shot of adrenaline, straight to the heart. Fitting, isn’t it?
The Noble Thiefs’ Myron Dean (vocalist), Riley Hastings (guitarist), Johannes Lodewyks (bassist), and Joel Armstrong (drummer) are poised to lead the charge in resurrecting the soul-centric rock sounds of decades past with their newest endeavour, It’s Tough To Be The Bad Guy (Pipe & Hat/MapleMusic Recordings). The record stays true to what the band is known for – their pounding, funked-out, take on rock for the real world. Engineered by Jordan Waters and produced by Nash, the record was lovingly birthed in their hometown of Winnipeg inside both the Bedside Studio and the private Pipe & Hat studio. "We’ve been working on this album for two years, and now we finally have something that we’re truly proud to put our name on,” says Hastings.
The Treble has carved out a reputation for crafting impressively bold and unique rock-infused pop music to appeal to a phenomenal cross-section of music lovers.
In their 10-year music career, rock band The Trews, have played thousands of gigs, have five studio albums, 16 Top 10 Active Rock radio singles (including two #1s), 2 Gold Albums in Canada, and 350,000+ catalogue sales. Their current self-titled album produced three Top 10 radio singles, including, “What’s Fair Is Fair” which reached #2 on the charts.
