CIMA'S INDIE AFTERPARTY Celebrates the Artistic Excellence & Entrepreneurial Daring of the Independent Music Sector in Canada
Toronto, ON (May 12, 2022) – Today the Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) announced its inaugural INDIE AFTERPARTY event to celebrate the success of the Canadian Independent Music Sector. This new annual event will take place following the JUNOS Opening Night Awards, Saturday May 14.
Despite the enormous setbacks experienced by musicians and music businesses during the COVID pandemic, the global Independent Music Sector is seeing remarkable growth and influence. Nearly half of all Grammy winners in 2022 were from the Indie sector. The story is even more exciting here in Canada, with over two thirds of all JUNO nominees this year coming from the Indie sector.
CIMA, a not-for-profit association, has been supporting the success of the independent music industry in Canada for decades. During the pandemic CIMA has been instrumental in advocating for and securing emergency financial support for those in the sector whose livelihoods and businesses were affected by COVID. CIMA’s growing membership of over 350 Canadian-owned companies connects to thousands of artists across the country and represents every aspect of the independent music eco-system.
“All of our members, whether businesses or artists, or both, are creative entrepreneurs who are innovating at the cutting edge of culture and commerce.” says Andrew Cash, President and CEO of CIMA. “I’d like to thank all of our sponsors and partners who have extended their support to help kick off this exciting new annual event.”
CIMA’S INDIE AFTERPARTY event partners include: CONNECT Music Licensing, Monstercat, The Orchard, YouTube, ArtHaus, Cadence Music, The City of Toronto, Nettwerk, SOCAN, ACTRA/RACS, Bonsound, Indie88, Long & McQuade, Starfish Entertainment, Sonic Unyon, Henderson Brewing Company and Inniskillin Wines.
CIMA’S INDIE AFTERPARTY will be held at Longboat Hall following the JUNOS Opening Night Awards on May 14th in Toronto. This event is by invite only and subject to capacity. The event is 19+. Invitations to follow.
