Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly has announced an exciting line up of musical performers to ring in Canada’s 149th birthday on July 1 in Ottawa.

The festivities will kick off with the Canada Day Noon Show (12:00 p.m. EST) hosted by Rebecca Makonnen and Kardinal Offishall in the east garden of Parliament Hill. The show will be telecast on CBC News Network, ICI RDI and other CBC and ICI Radio-Canada platforms. Artists scheduled to perform include:

From 7:00-10:45 p.m., an Evening Show will also be held at Major’s Hill Park, beside the National Gallery of Canada. The line up will include:

The day-long birthday celebration highlights the rich tapestry of traditions – English, French, indigenous, and so many more – that combine to create Canadian culture. This incredible diversity is seldom more evident than in Canadian music.

The inclusion of performers like Thunder Bay’s JUNO Award-winning Coleman Hell, meanwhile, shows how important Canada’s independent music scene is to the creation of a vital, original Canadian culture.

Minister Joly elaborates:

“I’m very pleased to be taking part in my first Canada Day as Minister of Canadian Heritage. I invite you to join me in making the most of the many activities being offered in Canada’s Capital Region. I invite all Canadians to show their Canadian pride during the celebrations taking place in your part of the country.”
