A Close Up Of CIMA's Proactive Election Strategy with FYI Music News
CIMA President Stuart Johnston sat down for an interview with David Farrell from FYI Music News at our Road Gold launch earlier this summer. The interview, just published over at FYI Music News, comes at a fortuitous time with the federal election scheduled for October and provides a look into how CIMA is working alongside several key partners, including SOCAN, ADISQ, MMF, CMPA and CCMIA, to advance the interest of Canada's independent music industry.
Here's a short excerpt from the article:
With the run-up to the October 19th federal election, CIMA President Stuart Johnston has not been idle in airing the political concerns of his constituency in the Canadian independent music community in conjunction with a coalition of 13 music arts organizations.
Below, from a recent interview, Johnston outlines a five-point check list the association and a coalition of partners is placing before MPs and Party Leaders before election day. The strategy is a combination of tabling concerns, educating future House members, and promoting the interests of music communities at the federal party level. The coalition of 13 including CIMA has six spearheading the initiative. The six are: CIMA, SOCAN,CMPA, MMF, ADISQ, and the The Canadian Council of Music Industry Associations (CCMIA).
