Here Are Your Canadian Grammy Connections!
The American Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences released the list of nominations for the 57th Grammy Awards. The awards show will happen on February 8, 2015 and we're excited to see some Canadians get nominated!
CIMA will be celebrating the contributions of Canadian music to the Grammy's with our annual pre-Grammy Showcase, the Showcase and Celebration of Canadian Musical Excellence in February 2015. This year, it will be taking place on Thursday February 5 (three days before the Grammy broadcast) in Los Angeles (venue TBA). Find out more details about CIMA's mission here.
Here are the Canadian nominations for the 57th Grammy Awards:
Drake took home 3 nominations:
- Best Rap Performance, for "0-100/The Catch Up"
- Best Rap Song, also for "0-100/The Catch Up"
- Best Rap/Song Collaboration, for "Tuesday" by I Love Makonnen Featuring Drake
Arcade Fire was nominated twice:
- Best Alternative Music Album, for Reflektor
- Best Music Video, for "We Exist"
Deadmau5 received one nomination:
- Best Dance/Electronic Album, for While (1<2)
Several other releases with Canadian connections received some attention from the Grammy organizers:
- Tegan & Sara's + The Lonely Island's "Everything is Awesome!" received a nomination for Best Song Written For Visual Media, but the nomination went to the songwriters.
- Similarly, Neil Young's A Letter Home vinyl box set received a nomination for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, which went to his art directors.
- Toronto-based music journalist Colin Escott received a nomination alongside Cheryl Pawelski for Best Historical Album for The Garden Spot Programs (1950).
- The late American artist Jesse Winchester, who also held Canadian citizenship, received a nomination for Best American Roots Song, for "Just So Much".
