2022-2025 Board of Directors Announced at CIMA’s Annual General Meeting
TORONTO, ON - The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, where they hosted members, stakeholders, and supporters virtually to elect a new Board of Directors.
The event kicked off with a beautiful performance from Toronto-based folk band Basset. This led attendees straight into AGM business. Members heard remarks from CIMA’s President Andrew Cash who spoke about the emergence of the industry post-COVID, the organizations exciting new direction and how it will continue to best serve its members moving forward.
"After a couple of really challenging years for the music sector and the country, we at CIMA are focused on the future: how do we help to make it better for music companies and artists to succeed in a climate of constant change and disruption. With the economy in flux and technological innovation advancing at a staggeringly fast pace, we need to be ready. It is why CIMA is restructuring how we serve members, how we build partnerships, and how we look and communicate,” Cash says. “Now more than ever the world needs music and CIMA is going to be there every step of the way to help our members build their businesses and make it to the world stage.”
CIMA’s Board Chair Tim Potocic spoke about the organization’s growth under the leadership of President Andrew Cash as well as the development of new initiatives and the reframing of old ones.
“The new CIMA will begin to be unveiled at the tail end of 2022 and into 2023. CIMA will emerge as a bigger player with a stronger voice for the membership. We are looking forward to being the strongest voice for the music community,” says Potocic.
Members were treated to a presentation from Music Declares Emergency (MDE) co-founders Fay Milton and Lewis Jamieson, who spoke about industry action on sustainability and innovation, current key areas of concern and interest to MDE and their role in artist advocacy, education, community building and media support.
The event wrapped up with an incredible full band performance from BC-based hip-hop artist Teon Gibbs.
Most importantly, during today’s AGM, CIMA members re-elected incumbents Susan de Cartier (Starfish Entertainment), Meagan Davidson (Tiny Kingdom Music), Gourmet Delice (Bonsound), Amanda Rheaume (Ishkode Records) and Daniel Turcotte (Monstercat) to 3-year terms.
These Directors will be joining incumbents: Simon Mortimer-Lamb (Nettwerk), Justin West (Secret City Records), Tim Potocic (Sonic Unyon), David Cox (CLK Creative Works), Gord Dimitrieff (Aporia Records), Shauna de Cartier (Six Shooter Records), Kesi Smyth (604 Records), Iain Taylor (Cadence Music Group), Kieran Roy (Arts & Crafts Productions) and Sandy Pandya (Pandyamonium/ArtHaus).
In the coming weeks, the newly elected Board will appoint two new Directors to one-year terms. The Board will use these appointments to add Directors who can address imbalances and gaps in CIMA's leadership representation of ethnic or cultural diversity, gender, sexuality, skillsets, geography, and/or genres of music.
CIMA extends a warm thank-you and appreciation to the 2021-2022 Board of Directors for its hard work and leadership, as well as congratulations and welcome to the 2022–2025 Board of Directors.
