Touring is an essential part of the music business, offering artists an opportunity to grow their audience and forge authentic connections with fans. The U.S. and Europe have long been primary destinations for Canadian bands, but as online distribution makes it easier than ever to share your music worldwide, the possibilities of touring in burgeoning markets becomes more realistic. How do Canadian artists navigate foreign contexts? This panel will bring together music industry pro-fessionals working in Africa, Asia, and South America to embolden artists to reach out farther.
Vanessa Kanga is the founder and designer of Afropolitan Nomad Festival, an art festival com-mitting to put culture at the service of citizen participation. This nomadic festival, founded in 2012, tours Africa, bringing artists from both the North and the South to the heart of awareness and citi-zen involvement.
Jordan Corso has over 10 years of experience in the music industry booking, and artist man-agement. He was responsible for many international artists first China performances and distribu-tion deals with Chinese artists in North America as the VP of Modern Sky US, and is the current director of booking and head of A&R for Anniversary group, whose diverse roster is made up of artists from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, UK, EU, Australia, and North Ameri-ca.
Steven Dagenais is an Ecuadorian–Canadian music producer, curator, festival director, and art-ist. Currently based in Toronto, works as the Festival Manager at Canadian Music Week. He is the founder of the international music conference and festival MIIM in Quito, Ecuador. Steven has over 10 years of experience working in the Latin Alternative and Latin Film Industry as a music producer and composer.
Jawad Elajnad is a self-taught musician, author, and composer with over 20 years of experience. Very curious and passionate about world music, he has refined his skills in acoustic research and sound installations. He has collaborated with several theatre companies, and also served as the sound engineer for Carlos Maza & Familia Septeto’s international tour.
