CIMA Hosts Successful Annual General Meeting at the Dakota Tavern
Last week, CIMA's membership gathered at Toronto’s Dakota Tavern for our 2013 annual general meeting.
The ‘business’ portion of the evening saw the election of a new CIMA board, as well as remarks by CIMA Chair Shauna de Cartier, CIMA President Stuart Johnston and MusicOntario Executive Director Scott Honsberger. Unison Fund Executive Director Sheila Hamilton also addressed the membership about her organization, and its importance to the music industry. The evening was capped off with a performance by Scarlett Jane and of course the keynote address by the Hon. Michael Chan, Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
The evening highlighted the success CIMA has witnessed over the past year. During his remarks, Stuart provided an overview of a few of the organization’s many successes, including the establishment of MusicOntario (the province’s new music industry association), the expansion of CIMA’s research and communications capacity, the release of its ground-breaking research report, Sound Analysis, and the launch of its new website at www.cimamusic.ca. For more information on MusicOntario, please visit its new website www.music-ontario.ca.
The membership also approved changes to CIMA’s bylaws, which allows the Board of Directors to choose the number of elected members of the Board. The purpose of the change is to decrease the number of directors over a period of time, from the current 20. This year, the Board agreed to reduce its number by two, to 18, in order to become more nimble and flexible.
Additionally, CIMA members elected eight directors to the board, who will serve until the 2015 AGM. Out of a pool of 16 candidates, Geoff Kulawick (True North Records/Linus Entertainment), Jake Gold (The Management Trust), Jeffrey Remedios (Arts & Crafts), Nick Blasko (Amelia Artists Inc/Atomique Productions Ltd.), Pegi Cecconi (SRO Anthem), Ric Arboit (Nettwerk Productions), Rob Lanni (Coalition Music) and Shauna de Cartier (Six Shooter Records) were elected. Remaining directors include Alvin Jahns (Stony Plain Records), Bob D’Eith (Adagio Music), Chris Taylor (Last Gang Records), Gord Dimitrieff (Aporia Records), Grant Dexter (MapleMusic), Jim West (Justin Time Records), Justin West (Secret City Records), Lisa Logutenkow (Dine Alone Records), Tim Potocic (Sonic Unyon Records).
CIMA would like to extend a warm thank-you to the 2012-13 Board for its hard work and leadership, as well as to congratulate and welcome the 2013-14 Board.
