An eye to the past is a nod to the future. This group of exceptional panelists comes from all facets of the international music industry. Each will share their own personal rise through the ranks and include what they’ve learned along the way. Leading to an audience active discussion on where things were and where is should be going in the future.

Speaker Bios:
MODERATOR: Charlie Wall-Andrews – Executive Director, SOCAN Foundation
Charlie Wall-Andrews is a Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholar, creative industries leader, and faculty member at Toronto Metropolitan University. In her role at SOCAN Foundation, she established many programs, such as the Creative Entrepreneur Incubator and Equity X Production Development Program, which prepare music creators to turn their passion and talent into sustainable careers. She is a Management Ph.D. (ABD) candidate at Ted Rogers School of Management, where she specializes in strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship and conducts her dissertation research with the Diversity Institute. She is on the Canada Council for the Arts Board of Directors and the inaugural Vice-Chair of Music Canada’s Advisory Council. In 2019, she was appointed a global Legacy Fellow for the Ariane de Rothschild Fellowship and is an associate composer at the Canadian Music Centre.
Helen Britton – CEO and President, Six Shooter Inc.
As a business owner, artist manager and industry stakeholder for over twenty years, Helen Britton’s approach to the music business has focused on developing the infrastructure to support long-term, multi-dimensional artist careers. CEO and President of Six Shooter Inc., the management division of Six Shooter Records, Britton oversees a roster that includes Tanya Tagaq, July Talk, Whitehorse, MAUVEY, The Dead South, Nyssa and William Prince. With perseverance and integrity, Britton has built Six Shooter Inc. as a destination for internationally renowned artists whose creative pursuits often extend beyond the standard role of musician or performer. In addition to her artist management work, Britton also represents Tanya Tagaq for live booking (Canada and Europe), speaking engagements, book publishing and as Executive Producer for an upcoming documentary and a stage production. As Chair of the board for Music Manager’s Forum Canada and on the CARAS/MusiCounts board, Britton is also engaged in developing and supporting initiatives towards a more equitable, accessible music business for all.

Nuela Charles (Artist)
3x JUNO-Award nominated Nuela Charles is an alternative/pop singer-songwriter with a soulful edge. Born in Kenya, raised in Switzerland, Canada and the Bahamas before settling back in Canada, Charles’ music is infused with her multicultural upbringing. With 5 studio projects released to critical acclaim, multiple award wins, and even more nominations, Charles released her self-titled 6th studio project, Nuela Charles in September 2022.
