Over the course of March and April, CIMA will be presenting a 5-part webinar series for CIMA members and companies that are interested in learning all there is to know about HR.

The Cultural Human Resource Council (CHRC) will be leading the discussions, based on theCHRC HR Management Toolkit, with invited: HR firms Williams HR Law Professional Corporation, Woods Consulting, and Pivot HR Services. Each of these 90-minute sessions will feature presentations covering relevant concepts and themes related to human resource management, concluding with Q&A periods addressing the discussed subject (see main discussion points and the detailed schedule below).

A CHRC HR Management toolkit will be offered to participating CIMA members for free ($200 value) and discounted to participating non-members at a rate of 50% off. CIMA members unable to attend these sessions can also opt to purchase the toolkit for 50% off.

Schedule:

Session #1: Hiring & Firing

Date: March 9 (1:00PM-2:30PM ET)
Speaker: Laura Williams (Williams HR Law Professional Corporation)

In the first session, participants will delve deep into the process of hiring new employees including RFPs, call for candidates, job descriptions, search tactics, employment contracts and performance evaluations. This session will also cover the subject of firing and laying off employees including rules and regulations, obligations, the correct processes and considerations.

Session #2: Scaling & Structure

Date: March 16 (1:00PM-2:30PM ET)
Speaker: Shelly L Woods, CHRP (Woods Consulting)
The second session, will look at scaling and structure within a company and will cover various topics such as strategic HR planning, diversity and organizational “hierarchy”.

Session #3: Training & Succession

Date: March 23 (1:00PM-2:30PM ET)
Speaker: Shelly L Woods, CHRP (Woods Consulting)
The third session, will offer participants the opportunity to learn more about proper training and succession within a company. Topics will include orientation vs onboarding, skills and professional development, mentoring and planning for succession.

Session #4: Crisis Prevention & Management

Date: March 30 (1:00PM-2:30PM ET)
Speaker: Joel Smith (Williams HR Law Professional Corporation)
In the fourth session, participants will learn about crisis prevention and management while delving into topics such as training, policies, support systems and workplace safety.

Session #5: Organizational Culture

Date: April 6 (1:00PM-2:30PM ET)
Speaker: Robin Turnill, MRHM, CPHR, SHRM-SCP (Pivot HR Services)
In this final session, participants will learn about building and managing organizational culture, corporate social reasonability, the importance of team-building and leadership.

Speaker Bios:


Laura Williams, LLB, CSP
Founder and Principal, Williams HR Law and Williams HR Consulting Inc.
Laura has built two highly respected firms which respectively provide proactive HR law and HR consulting advice designed to minimize workplace law challenges, maximize employee engagement and boost bottom line performance.
Laura is also a seasoned workplace investigator, routinely engaged to conduct complex workplace investigations, and is recognized for specific expertise in investigations related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
As a professional speaker, Laura regularly delivers keynote talks on topics relevant to entrepreneurs, business leaders, HR professionals and lawyers. Laura has recently launched a podcast for business leaders and HR Professionals called, We Thrive Forward – Conversations with Laura Williams which is available on all major platforms.

Shelly L Woods, CHRP
Principal, Woods Consulting
An accomplished Human Resources leader experienced in translating business strategies into Human Resources solutions. For over 25 years, Shelly has partnered with the senior level leaders of both for profit and NGO’s to provide advice and counsel on strategic initiatives. Regarded as a trusted advisor, she has created and implemented strategic HR plans that have been focused on organizational effectiveness, change management, talent management, succession planning, and employee engagement. Shelly also has expertise in leading teams, executive and staff level compensation design, leadership development and facilitation.
Shelly is a graduate of the Advanced Program in Human Resources Management at the University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management and holds her CHRP designation. Shelly is a certified Analyst with Thomas International and administers Emotional Intelligence and Workplace Behavioural and Personality assessments. She is a former board director of the CRC Self Help, and has acted as an advisor to the HR committee of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s board of directors.

Robin Turnill, MRHM, CPHR, SHRM-SCP
Pivot HR Services
Robin has 20 years of executive, management and consulting experience in both the public and the private sector. She has held several senior HR leadership roles, as well as been a Chief Operating Officer. Through her work as the Managing Consultant at Pivot HR Services, Robin has provided strategic HR services to many large clients in the legal, financial, health, education, utilities, entertainment and transportation industries. Her industry and practical knowledge are complemented by ten years of academic experience gained as a Human Resources BBA Instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s School of Business.
Robin is a community-minded individual and volunteers her time and expertise with several non-profit organizations. She is a Board Director for the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR BC and Yukon) and the President of the Board for Kids Up Front Foundation. As well, she is the Chair of the Employer Advisory Committee for Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Robin has been the past Vice-Chair of the Board of both Greater Vancouver Community Services Society and Electric Company Theatre.
Robin has a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management from York University, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of British Columbia, a Post-Diploma in Human Resources Management from BCIT, and holds two designations as Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) and Society for Human Resource Management – Senior Certified Professional (SHMR-SCP). She has a Diversity and Inclusion Certification from Cornell University and is a professionally trained coach through the industry leading Co-Active Training Institute.
