More about the artists:

Ellen Froese (SK)

Folk singer-songwriter Ellen Froese’s comforting and husky warble gets crowds a lil’ groovy and commands presence on Canadian and international stages. When she sings that she “feels like I’m waiting for you to let loose,” a line from the first track on her 2019 album Fightin’ Words, listeners wonder how they could’ve ever kept her waiting. Clever and slightly self-deprecating, Ellen’s songs get into the places of your heart that hold both those quieter melancholic feelings and those moments of warm contentment that make you want to dance shoulder to shoulder with whoever is around.

Miesha and the Spanks (AB)

Based in Treaty 7 Territory, Miesha & The Spanks are made up of rock n roll matriarch Miesha Louie on guitar/vocals, and the hard hitting, heavy-handed Sean Hamilton on drums. Together they’ve been building their garage-rock sound into something almost too big for two people to contain, exploding onto the Indigenous Music Countdown, CBC 3 Top 10, Mediabase Top 100 Alternative, and NACC's Breaking Alt charts all last year. Deeply influenced by proto-punk classics and 90s riot grrrl/grunge, Miesha & The Spanks conjure an energy that hits you in the face - throwing you into a world of killer riffs and sweaty gig venues. It’s in those sweaty spaces that Miesha & The Spanks thrive, fresh off the highway, out of the van, and onto the stage.

Mobina Galore (MB)

Since forming in 2011, Mobina Galore, the Winnipeg punk duo of Jenna Priestner (guitar/vocals) and drummer Marcia Hanson (drums/vocals) have cut their teeth on an approach to music that operates without the fluff. Now three albums into their decade-long career their newest single, “Whiskey Water”,released 2022 showcases a fresh sound while continuing the band’s signature of crafting unapologetically heavy, wildly dynamic songs that explore life’s peaks and valleys with discerning emotional clarity. Jenna and Marcia go straight for the jugular through lyrics that shuffle through a wide range of emotions — confusion and indignation; exasperation and finally, forgiveness — that speak to the blunt reality of universal experiences. They were nominated Rock Artist of the Year in 2017 and 2020 at the Western Canadian Music Awards and have toured with Against Me!, Propagandhi, Pennywise, Iron Chic including shows with PUP, Petrol Girls and Spanish Love Songs.

Shaela Miller (AB)

Unofficially dubbed Alberta’s queen of Honky Tonk, Shaela Miller has spent over the past decade playing the music the way she wants to. She is deeply cognizant of the work that goes into her craft and is not afraid to develop her sound while remaining loyal to her muses. Her sophomore release “Big Hair Small City” (2021) earned itself a #4 spot on CKUA Radio’s top 100 albums of 2021 and the title track single landed on Spotify playlist “Best Country Songs of 2020 Canada”. Miller’s live show is a welcome addition to a festival lineup and 2022 included stops at The Calgary Stampede, Wild Oats & Notes, North Country Fair, Wild Mountain Music Festival, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival, Big Valley Jamboree, GrizzFest and more. With a new album in the works, Miller is exploring a new sonic landscape that will bring her songs to world stages.

Julie Doiron (NB)

Julie Doiron is back with I Thought Of You, her first solo record since 2012’s So Many Days. In her time away from the spotlight she has remained entwined with music; releasing a critically acclaimed record with Julie and The Wrong Guys, reworking some of her work in Spanish for Acuarela Records and collaborating with Mount Eerie. These are the latest additions to Julie’s long history of collaboration, working with the likes of Gord Downie, Herman Dune and the unforgettable Eric’s Trip, the first Canadian band signed to American record label Sub Pop. Ever the bountiful songwriter, Julie had been writing songs in the 9 years since her last solo record, keeping them close and waiting to head back to the studio. When the time came, she enlisted close friends to collaborate: brothers Daniel and Ian Romano and Quebecois songwriter Dany Placard. The resulting album, I Thought Of You, is a return of the breath and fire of Julie Doiron.

Keeper E (NS)

Keeper E. combines heartfelt, tender lyrics with playful pop sounds and beats, enveloping the listener in her sweet melodies. Living and working on the East Coast of Canada in Nova Scotia, her music is filled with the natural imagery of rivers and oceans, and her songs are rooted in folk traditions. Her songs are deeply personal, and they have an inviting quality to them that empowers the listener. Keeper’s folk inspired melodies are coloured with layers of vocals, energetic synths, sound effects, and gentle, yet driving, beats. With catchy melodies and raw emotions, Keeper’s songs inspire listeners to sing along.

Clay and Friends (QC)

Clay and Friends offer a percussive mix of hip-hop, soul and funk supported by a prose that reflects what is now known as La Musica Popular De Verdun. Known for their supercharged live shows, Clay and Friends have rocked more than 1,750 Canadian and European crowds since 2015 under the #KeEpItMoViN' umbrella. The quintet has over 30 million listens to its catalog since its debut on streaming platforms. Their song Going Up The Coast is certified as a Gold single by Music Canada, commemorating the 40,000 digital sales of the single in Canada. This hit single has accumulated over 16 million listens to date since its release in October 2018. The group was nominated for the prestigious Félix-Leclerc Award 2021 and is also in list for the Song of the Year at ADISQ 2022 with their francophone hit Bouge ton thang.
